Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone massage is a natural therapy in which warmed stones are positioned on parts of the client’s body to maximize the therapeutic benefit and can be booked in 60 or 90 min sessions. The stones used are typically river rocks or very smooth surfaced stones made of basalt. These stones are heated in water before use. The high iron content in basalt helps the stones retain heat during the massage. Hot stone massages are beneficial on both physical and psychological levels. Always check with your doctor before getting a hot stone massage; individuals with certain conditions—including pregnant women and people with high blood pressure—are advised to avoid this type of therapy. The heat from the stones helps your muscles relax, allowing your therapist to manipulate your tissues more effective. Overly tense muscles can hinder the massage procedure, so if your muscles are extremely tight or stiff, the heated stones may provide the extra relaxation you need for the massage to be beneficial in releasing tension and easing sore muscles. While all types of massage can help relieve pain caused by tense muscles, stiff joints or injuries, a hot stone massage may provide greater relief due to the intense nature of the massage. Because the hot stones allows your therapist to penetrate deeper, you may find that a hot stone massage leaves you feeling physically better than a swedish or deep-tissue massage that does not incorporate heat. Typically, the heated stones are set to rest on trigger points in your body before beginning the actual massage. As the heat from the stones penetrates into your deeper body tissues, your blood vessels open, resulting in improved circulation. Poor circulation can lead to fatigue, which tenses the muscles, and a buildup of lactic acid in the muscles. Increased circulation delivers more oxygen to the muscles, which can help ease aches and pains. You may find that the relaxation afforded to you through a hot stone massage helps ease some of your mental stress and tension. A hot stone massage may also help you combat some of the symptoms of anxiety disorders and depression.

Aromatherapy

This is a $15 added enhancement that can be incorporated into your scheduled massage and adds no time to your session. Massage therapy is beneficial on its own; however when it is used in conjunction with essential oils, these two therapies can be synergistically more beneficial than when they’re performed separately. Aromatherapy massage involves a massage treatment using essential oils. During your Aromatherapy massage session, the essential oil of your choosing will be mixed with your massage cream and oil diffuser to set the tone for your own personal oasis! Used for centuries in folk medicine practice, Lemongrass has been shown to deter insects, ward off infection and soothe an overactive mind. Great to diffuse to calm a room, but should be used mindfully when applying to the skin as it can be irritating; make sure to always blend in a carrier oil.

-Peppermint: Peppermint essential oil comes from the leaves of the common culinary herb which has been used over the centuries to soothe aches and pains, calm the mind and belly, and clear the mind from overactive thinking. Its fresh uplifting aroma can give the feeling of being energized and awakened and offers the experience of having more room to breathe.

-Rosemary: Rosemary essential oil comes from the leaf of the common culinary herb which has been used over the centuries in cooking to soothe digestion and protect meats from spoiling. -Tea Tree: Tea Tree essential oil comes from the leaf of the Tea Tree and its chemical components have been found to have an affinity to cleanse and clear the skin. It also supports feelings of clear thinking and can keep us motivated. It can be used for clearing and cleansing a room, and a balancing component in shampoos and body washes.

Sore Muscle Therapy

This is a $15 added enhancement that can be incorporated into your scheduled massage and adds no time to your session. Recommended for clients suffering from any type of deep and chronic pain. The combination of Prossage Heat and Biofreeze applied to the target area creates a contrast with a deep circulatory effect called “Thermotherapy” which is very effective in pain relief. Prossage Heat is an area specific warming  oil for pain management, sports injuries, and orthopedic and deep tissue massage. It is a 100% natural, therapeutic, warming ointment for Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue Work and Trigger Point Therapy. It has been developed specifically to produce gentle penetrating heat to the skin, fascia, muscles and other soft tissue structures. As tissues soften, more blood and oxygen penetrate congested areas reducing the ischemia responsible for many chronic pain syndromes, orthopedic conditions and common sports injuries. Biofreeze is a topical analgesic that uses the cooling effect of menthol, a natural pain reliever, to soothe minor muscle and joint pain. It penetrates quickly, offering relief through cold therapy. Special receptors are responsible for sending pain signals to the brain by way of the spinal cord. When Biofreeze is applied to a painful area, it’s thought to create a cold sensation that overrides these pain signals. This mechanism works similarly to ice, but with additional benefits.

Migraine & Sinus Relief ($75)

This service can be booked separately or as an add-on to your scheduled massage being that it is a 30 min service. This service is great for clients suffering with migraines/headaches, TMJ and sinus problems. A three-pronged approach is implemented which includes aromatherapy, facial massage and cold therapy in which are very effective in helping relieve the pain of migraine sufferers and the congestion of sinus sufferers. Marble is the ideal choice for use in cold stone therapy. At room temperature, marble is 11 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than any stone in nature. The stones have been cut to various shapes and sizes designs to work specific areas. They act as a powerful decongestant to help diffuse inflammation, help relieve puffiness and dark circles around the delicate eye area, and improve skin tone. They work extremely well on the sinus areas to relieve pain and congestion. When combining the use of hot towels with cold marble stones, the resulting vasodilation and constriction of the blood vessels encourages cleansing and nourishment, using fluid and wastes out of the tissue. Total Body Assisted Stretch

This service can be booked separately or as an add-on to your scheduled massage in 30 or 60 min increments. This therapy involves a series of assisted stretches starting from the head and down to the bottom of your feet. Please bring or wear athletic clothes. Why should you stretch? Stretching keeps muscles flexible, strong and healthy. We need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it the muscles shorten and become tight. Injured muscles may not be strong enough to support the joints, which can lead to joint injury. Stretching fortifies the posture by lengthening tight muscles that pull areas of the body away from their intended position and keeping your muscles loose. Stretches to the lower back, chest and shoulders can help keep the spine in better alignment and improve overall posture by relieving aches and pains. With reduced pain, there is a reduced desire to hunch or slouch. Stretching improves energy levels! Sometimes you may have trouble staying awake during your long dragging day. Muscles tighten when we get tired and that makes us feel even more lethargic. Stretching increases stamina! Stretching loosens your muscles and tendons which relieves muscle fatigue and increases blood flow. With stretching, you can delay the onset of muscle fatigue by ensuring oxygen is efficiently flowing through your blood, thereby increasing your endurance. Stretching encourages an optimistic outlook! A buildup of stress causes your muscles to contract, making you feel tense and uneasy. This tension can lead to having a negative impact on your mind as well as your body. Stretching encourages the release of endorphins, providing a sense of tranquility and euphoria.

Foot Reflexology ($50)

This service can be booked separately or as an add-on to your scheduled massage being that it is a 30 min service.  Foot reflexology is based on the premise that there are reflexes in the feet that correspond to all parts of the body and that stimulating these reflexes brings about physiological changes.  Foot reflexology is effective in bringing about a deep state of relaxation.  The solar plexus is the nerve center where stress is stored.  When the solar plexus reflex point is pressed, it is as if all of the stress in the body is eliminated.  Because stress can greatly affect immune system and leave on vulnerable to serious illnesses such as cancer, it is important to relieve it.  Reflexology can help in this way.

Hot Wax Foot Bath/Hand Treatment ($75)

Either service can be booked as a stand-alone service or as an add-on to your scheduled massage being that they are 30 min services. Service includes a dry-buff removal of callus, an invigorating sugar scrub, hydrating paraffin dip and a glorious scalp, neck, shoulder and back massage. A treatment especially soothing for those who stand on their feet, those who have dry or cracked feet, and those who work with their hands in repetitive sequences. A paraffin treatment soothes chronic joint pain and relaxes stiff muscles, and improves blood flow to the treated area. it increases range of motion for people with arthritis, bursitis and other chronic conditions that cause pain and stiffness. Paraffin treatments also smooth and soften dry chapped rough and scaly skin. It can be helpful for chronic skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. Paraffin treatment is a form of deep heat therapy. Liquified paraffin wax is very efficient at absorbing and retaining heat. Heat transfers from the wax into the affected area as the wax solidifies. The heat increases circulation and relieves pain and stiffness. To aid in skin softening, paraffin increases blood supply to the skin, while also opening pores and trapping moisture from underlying layers of skin. The wax traps heat near the skin, which penetrates to stiff and aching joints. It is also used as a therapeutic treatment for arthritis, muscular pain or joint sprains. Not recommended for children, very elderly people or anyone who is sensitive to high temperatures. Paraffin melts at a lower than normal temperature, meaning the skin can be submerged in the wax without causing burning or blistering. If you have highly sensitive skin, you may experience heat rash from a paraffin application to the skin. Paraffin treatments are not recommended for people with hypertension, diabetes or varicose veins. This treatment can lead to abnormal sensations, numbness and hinders circulation if you are diabetic. Because paraffin comes from petroleum products, people with chemical sensitivities may develop minor swelling or breakouts from the wax treatment. Avoid this treatment if you have any skin rashes or open wounds.
